Living in Canada and Figuring out My Taxes Since I’m a US Citizen

I thought tax time was annoying in the country where I am a citizen. When I had to move to Canada for a few years to not pass up a chance to earn a lot of corporate dollars for my expertise, I found out that taxes can get worse. Being a US citizen living in Canada earning Canadian dollars from a company that is foreign to Canada gets complicated. I had to hire experts to help me figure out the Canada US cross border tax.

I don’t know anything about taxes. I just know my job. My job gets very technical, and there are thousands of pages of manuals to read and understand. However, that is nowhere near as complicated as the tax code. I think tax experts that can keep you from ever getting on the audit radar should be paid a fortune. (more…)
